Flyers vs Devils Pregame/Quick Penguins Recap

The Flyers played one of their better defensive games of the year and Marty Biron once again played an outstanding game. The Flyers were more physical and more disciplined than the Penguins were and they forced the Penguins into bad turnovers and penalties. Incredibly, they held Crosby and Malkin to zero shots on goal. Ryan Parent is continuing to improve his defensive game and Coburn has been great as well.

Although he didn't wind up on the scoresheet, Mike Richards led the way for the Flyers, with some very nice hits during the course of the game and did a great job controlling the Penguins' offense. Evgeni Malkin had one of his awful games he has once in awhile where he seems to turn the puck over every time he touches it.

I've been noticing a trend with the Flyers lately. They've been generating numerous 2 on 1 chances, but they haven't done much with them. Granted, you're not going to score on every odd man rush, but getting a solid scoring chance out of the opportunity is important.

Tonight the Flyers will return home from their road trip to take on the rival New Jersey Devils. The Devils always play the Flyers very tough, so they will have their work cut out for them. John Stevens has confirmed that Marty Biron will be starting in net for the Flyers and as of now, its looking like Martin Brodeur will be in the net for the Devils.

Although the offense sputtered some yesterday, the Flyers should really just keep doing what they did yesterday, and that's play good defense. I've been very impressed with their down low defense in the past few weeks and that's one of the reasons Biron has played so well. And that's not taking anything away from what Biron has done. Individually, he's been absolutely stellar, making some highlight reel-type saves on pretty much a nightly basis, but its always nice to have a little help from the friends.

The Flyers have also seemed to have righted the special teams ship. They've gotten back to scoring on the power play and their penalty killing has been very good lately. They just need to stay disciplined, but aggressive, and limit the scoring opportunities of guys like Patrick Elias, Zach Parise, and Brian Gionta.
